A successful fine art graduate of Liverpool John Moores University, Carl Albutt's work explores dislocation, the reality of a modern utopia, and the individuals place within this 'utopia'. The pieces examine these issues with a spare style and vigour that belie the technical ability of the artist.
Extensive travels and exhibitions have provided the artist with a personal overview, a backdrop upon which to place the divided and disposessed characters which populate much of the work.
Characters which are often adrift and alone, yet remain, above all else, defiantly human.
Travels in Russia, China, Japan and mainland Europe have all informed the work of Carl Albutt, and these journeys provided both intense joy and deep sadness, a paradox which is explored throughout the work.
The work taken as a whole offers a notion of 'alone-ness' which, although seemingly universal, can be opposed and conquered.
